[Veronica's gaze was stern as she looked at the screen. There was an air of dignity around her, despite how young she looked, but that could have to do with the many scars on her face and neck, the most notable ones being the two lines that intersected across her face, making an "X". She stares down at her Pokegear with what looked to be a mixture of confusion and annoyance. This goes on for a few seconds until she finally opens her mouth to speak.]

Ah-

Mukrow!

[And that's all that's heard from her, because immediately after, the Pokegear is yanked away from her and the world becomes a blur. It's like that for a good minute or so before everything finally settles. The Pokegear is now, evidently, high up in a tree, the tiny town of New Bark sitting in the background. It's actually kind of scenic, until Veronica appeared, having climbed up quickly to retrieve her device.

She swats at the Murkrow that took it, leading to a brief scuffle before the bird Pokémon takes flight, letting her finally get the Pokegear back. She is notably less dignified than before as she finally starts talking.]

...This is ridiculous, all of it. [Annoyance in her tone barely contained.] Why do I have to go on this journey? Why is this even happening?

[The Murkrow from before caws loudly in the background, getting a flinch out of Veronica. She glances back, letting out a sigh and finally killing the feed.]

...yeah, that's kind of why they don't want to leave you alone! And the only bad thing, really. They've got a lot of super cool skills but sometimes you want to fight for yourself, you know?

I did get a bunch of weapons back during this weird weekend where there were crystals everywhere, but... well, I broke a lot of them...

Of course. [Veronica nods heartily.] A warrior is supposed to fight their own battles. You're not supposed to have others do it for you.

[Which, honestly, was probably the biggest problem Veronica had with having a Pokémon to fight with. Besides the vague animal cruelty thing she wasn't sure about yet.]

You did? ....Are any of them still usable?

Yeah, I was kind of bugged by that, too. But... hey, think of it like they're a very small army and you're their tactician! That makes it a lot easier to swallow, if you ask me.

...and you know, I think they all just kind of disappeared afterwards, which was a huge bummer.

A... small army?

[...Huh. She'd have to think this over before she could decide if that was a good thing. Maybe if she found Pokémon that shared her lost abilities...]

Dammit... What's with this place? I already miss my powers and stuff.

Yeah, I know how you feel. But it's not too bad once you get used to it! It's nice and laid back and all the fighting is for fun and not the fate of the world.

[All of this is.... just some kind of game? Veronica wasn't sure what to think of that. She'd been taken from her home... all because of a game.]

Team Rocket... [That name catches her attention.] They're bad guys? If I run into some, and they're doing something, I'll take them on.

[She'd be happy to fight with someone.]

Sounds like a great idea! We could always use a few heroes of justice around, in case they end up up to no good!

[IGNORE THE DOUBLE AGENT HERE, REALLY]

[Careful, Cynthia. Veronica might figure you out before your job as a double agent even begins.]

Well, that's kind of like being a hero, right? I mean, you're someone's personal hero, which has to count for something.
