Veronica Madaraki is the youngest creation of Professor Naomitsu Madaraki, the worlds greatest biologist. She isn't his daughter by blood though, she's an artificial humanoid, created by him through a formula only he understands and made out of the body parts of multiple dead girls. The reason for her existance is simple, she was created to protect the Professor from any threat. And although she's not the first to be given this job, she's the best at it so far. She was the perfect creation to protect the scientist. Together, they traveled the world, him performing medical miracles of a morally ambiguous nature, her slaughtering the thousands of Yakuza, thugs, and hitmen that tried to make a move on him and take his work for their own purposes.

This was Veronica's life, for an unknown but likely very long period of time. The Professor, and the bloodshed that followed in his wake, were all she knew. Soon there came info that the enemies had turned their attention on the Professor's estate instead. The Professor ordered Veronica to go and protect it. Even though she didn't want to leave him alone like this, she couldn't deny his orders and they parted ways. Veronica traveled in that direction, having a few adventure on her own. Eventually she found her way back home and then she found Fran.

With the Professor gone for months to some unknown place, and no one knowing for sure if he's even alive anymore, the Madaraki estate fell into the hands of what was possibly the greatest creation of the doctor; Fran Madaraki, a creation slightly older than Veronica possessing a wide array of medical knowledge and surgical abilities that were second only to the Professor himself. She left behind by the professor to maintain the house and work in his stead and does so dutifully, even tending to the people who come looking for the Professor.

Veronica reached the manor eventually, alone and still without the professor in sight. For two weeks, she studied her sister in secret, learning about her soft nature and different lifestyle. She had to test her sister it seemed. The first blow was struck when she killed one of Fran's guards patrolling the estate, putting a poison in him that fought his regenerative abilities and killed him. Making her presence known, she made it clear that she was going to meet with her big sister and kill her.

Having discovered a wave of soldiers making their way to attack the manor, Veronica set an explosive trap for them while she confronted her sister, telling her of her belief that a painless death is better than a painful life. The two argued briefly before the trap went off, effectively maiming the entire group of at least thirty soldiers. Veronica encouraged Fran to let them die but Fran refused and set to work saving them.

Veronica fell asleep during this time and woke up to see just how Fran had saved the people. She had combined them, stitching them together into creatures with multiple heads and limbs using whatever parts were still functional. Veronica was stunned in horror as Fran explained her ideals, any life is better then death, even a life of pain and suffering.

Even worse, Fran had implanted a microchip into Veronica that sent shocks through her head at the push of a button to keep her violent actions under control. Then, she decided that a test was in order, so Fran took Veronica apart, piece by piece, and left her like that for a month. This weakened Veronica's muscles considerably and she's been working on regaining her strength ever since.

From then on she begrudgingly followed Fran in her daily endeavors, guarding her and the house from any attackers and escorting her to jobs. The two were often at odds in the beginning but eventually grew to treat one another like proper family. Even later, Veronica ran across her even older sister, Gavrill, an extremely violent, sociopathic gang leader who can transform her body at will. Veronica was ripped to shreds by her, effectively killing Veronica until she was brought back to life by Fran - although she was stuck in a "chibi" form from lack of working parts. Together, Fran and Veronica worked to escape and evade their sister, blowing her up and believing her to be dead until she turned up a couple of months later, alive and angry.

Veronica's other adventures were vast and very different. While she spent most of her time defending the estate and laying traps for any potential threats, she was also sent off to different schools by Fran for multiple reasons. Sometimes to get her out of the way, sometimes as a form of punishment. Veronica tried very hard to make friends at one school, but was bullied quite badly. She did make one friend though, but it quickly came to an end when she learned that she was actually trying to sell her to a human trafficking ring. She saw through the façade and eventually got out of it. Other strange situations Veronica had ended up in involved a so called haunted school, a society of intelligent cockroaches, and a cult creating a god made out of spaghetti.

...Yes, all this happened. This manga is pretty weird. And throughout it all, Veronica still kept to her new family's side.

Personality: The first thing that's likely noticeable about Veronica is that she's a shy, distant kind of person. It
is one of the reasons she wears the long cloak she generally does, although the main reason is to conceal weaponry. Though, she will quickly show that she's also a very intelligent young woman; quick with her wits, and even quicker with her reflexes, but she'll keep back unless needed and analyses the situation before she can step in or not. Most of the time, her mindset centers around fighting and defending, understandable as that was why she was created in the first place. Veronica has crossed an entire world to get home again. This is a girl that refuses to lose until it's all over.

So if it's not already strikingly obvious, Veronica is very different compared to most people her age. Most of her life was spent traveling the world with the professor and killing any threat that got too close. Because of this rather socially lacking lifestyle, her emotional strengths were severely weakened and made her grow distant to social contact. Expressing emotions can be rather difficult because of this, and harder emotions like love often leave Veronica flustered and confused. Oh, she can still express emotions of course, but they're young and in dire need of growth. She's given thought to love and relationships sometimes though, as it is brought up several times during her time with Fran. She seems to find the concept of gay love very interesting, and freaks out when Fran asks her if there's anyone she has strong feelings for.

The term warrior is one of the most immediate words brought to mind to describe her. Born a fighter with a quiet sense of dignity, she'll go for the more confrontational route every time to get the job done, although needless violence might be going too far. Always willing to fight enemies, and ever loyal to her creator and sister. Veronica dutifully followed and protected the professor during her time with him, trusting him more than anyone in the world and believing that he trusted her all the same. She also follows Fran in the same way, even if it is slightly more begrudgingly because of the rocky start their relationship had. She carries the belief that a quick and painless death is best and is the best thing a warrior can offer out of respect of the other, which is why she will always take out someone as quickly as possible, instead of let them suffer. Her belief is opposed by Fran's belief of "Keep them alive no matter what" and the two sometimes butted heads on what is morally right or wrong, but she always ends up following Fran in the end. She also tends to have a heroic streak; jumping into the fray to protect defenseless innocents from monsters and foes, even if the reaction to her mirrors the reaction given to the monsters. Sadly, this is something that Veronica has begrudgingly accepted but she keeps helping anyways, believing it to be the right thing to do regardless.

Veronica's interactions with "normal" people were extremely limited until she came to live with her big sister Fran, mostly kept to brief encounters during her travels with the Professor and her subsequent trip back home to the estate. Notably, Veronica would much rather spend time doing what she was made for; protecting the estate and Fran from possible harm, than go out and socialize. Luckily, her sister, Fran is there to help her integrate into normal society more, even if Veronica has to be dragged kicking and screaming into it. Clearly it's for her own good though, right? To help Veronica, or simply get her out of the way for a while, Fran would send Veronica off to random schools across Japan, in the hopes that she would learn to be a nicer little sister. Obviously, Veronica didn't want to go, she doesn't enjoy being in areas with lots of people and she has, in her opinion, more important things to do at the estate. Still, she begrudgingly goes along with her sister's orders, she's loyal like that.

Although, she did end up becoming very close friends to one girl that showed her kindness, becoming her first best friend. She was extremely distraught when it came to be that she was murdered. When her older sister, Gavrill refused to give her information on who did it, Veronica went out of her way to gather information and get revenge on the killers. She even resorted to begging her bigger sister for help so she could avenge her friend. In fact, her desire to have friends that liker her is so strong that when she figured out a girl she was supposedly friends with was planning to sell her into a human trafficking ring, Veronica purposely put up with the act instead of outing her right away because she enjoyed the feeling of having a friend for the first time; eventually, she killed everyone except the girl and left in tears, trying to deny how saddened she was by the lies.

Her relationship with many of the people - and that's putting the term loosely - in the estate was very difficult at first, but she slowly grew attached to them, treating them with the same level of politeness as everyone else but slowly getting a little more open. Most notable, she slowly grew a bond of sorts with fellow creations, Okita and Adorea. She spent time in school with Adorea, the bandaged woman the only one that didn't bully her and treated her with real kindness. Together, they carried out the revenge plan on the would-be kidnapers, Adorea then trying to comfort Veronica when she left in tears. Okita and her became friends or sorts as well, spending time playing card games and generally commenting on events going on together.

Despite her noted troubles with people, Veronica seems to be curious about things in the outside world. When she goes to a convention with Fran, she's excited about all the new technology, but also confused by why everyone is so interested in robots, and she really likes to see what the intelligent Cockroaches have created in their cities. At the same time, her curiosity brings fear, as she's become extremely fearful of the paranormal, such as ghosts, likely because there's not way she can kill them. Talking about ghosts or telling scary stories will send her into quiet panic.

Over the course of the series, Veronica showed herself to be the most human out of her and her sisters. A very ironic thing, given her profession. She managed to show kindness even in the face of opposition, tolerating the bullies at school, protecting Fran and her home despite their differences, or saving the lives of people who called her a monster and drove her away. In some ways she's better than some of the normal people she meets.

Strength/Weaknesses:

+/- It's my biological imperative to protect them

Veronica was created for one reason, to protect the professor and everything he had against those that would use it for harmful purposes. She'll defend her family and loved ones that have been caught in the way to the end and lay down her life if it comes to it. It's her duty as a bodyguard to protect them. Although, really all she's supposed to do is protect her family and her home. Other things might be ignored since they're not part of her duty.

+/- I was made to be the best

And the best she is. Honestly though, Veronica was created with fighting in mind and it shows. Her eyes can see in infrared, her ears can pick up extremely high frequency sounds, she can emit a jet of fire from her mouth, and her fingertips have needles inserted into them that secret a paralytic poison that fights regenerative powers. She's also quite used to going through painful situations, and although it's not something she enjoys in any sense, she's generally rather durable. All of these will obviously either be removed or toned down if necessary.

+ Without being seen

Veronica has been trained to move quietly. Part of her lifestyle was being an assassin of course, so she had to make sure she was good at sneaking up on others. Here she'll probably still be able to do that, but whether it is effective against wild Pokémon will have to depend on what type it is.

+ Surviving is a specialty of a Madaraki

Being a little girl that traveled the world alone in search of her home, while being hunted by secret organizations and without help almost wherever she went, obviously Veronica would pick up some survival skills along the way. She knows how to hunt animals, find clean water, find or make reasonable shelter, etcetera.

+/- I hope we meet in battle

It's probably very odd to say that a teenaged girl is well trained in the ways of hand to hand combat, sword fighting, and even the use and creation of explosives. But that's just how Veronica is. She's also stronger than the average girl her age, though that can be attributed to the extensive workouts she usually gets through her job. Back home, Veronica could also run very quickly, fast enough to seemingly disappear from the human eye. Here, it'll be brought down to an above average human level of speed.

+/- Thinking and acting

As noted, Veronica has a wide knowledge of fighting tactics and how her opponents will act or move. Even if she gets surprised by something, she'll learn and adapt. Ergo, her reflexes are amazing in fights, though not so much in Pokémon battles; at least, until she figure out how that can of worms works and gets better at it. She tends to jump into action though, possibly at inopportune times.

+ A thing for animals

Notably, Veronica didn't travel completely alone all the time. For a while, her only companion, and the only one that liked her was a dog. This has lead her to be actually quite affectionate towards certain animals, and she might step in to help one if something's happened.

- What's this thing you call friendship?

Unfortunately, despite all her abilities, Veronica is still a very socially distant sixteen year old girl who's life has been severely lacking in contact with others. Although she can hold a conversation with someone if she has to, she doesn't usually start them. Her lack of social grace will no doubt lead to difficulties in the future.

- Super drowning skills

Quite possibly one of her biggest weaknesses is that Veronica can't swim. Because of the way she was made, and the weight of her weapons, she generally sinks like a rock if she tries. Hopefully one of the things she'll get on her journey are some water wings.

- I'm scared of ghosts

She is. Like a lot. While never really focused upon, Veronica's pretty clearly afraid of them and believes them to be not real. It's probably because she can't kill them if she tried.

Samples
First Person Sample: [The video opens and it shows.... nothing. Well, to be more specific, it shows the sky of the Johto region. The blue sky of a new day, the bright sun peeking out of the corner of a mass of cloud, the cries of wild Pokémon in the distance. It's almost serene.]

... How does.... okay, that will probably...

[A voice cuts through the serenity. Young, feminine; a little quiet but at the same time there's a steeliness behind it. All at once the screen jerks and it pulls away from the sky to show a random tree, then a rock, and finally a face. It's the face of a girl, can't be more than sixteen at that. A black fedora sits atop her head, equally black hair spilling from underneath it in locks. She actually takes a moment to brush it aside before speaking, drawing further attention to the strange, criss-crossing stitch-scars that went around her neck and along her face, meeting in the middle to create an "X" above the bridge of her nose.]

Umm... [Her mouth opened and closed. Lost for a moment, the girl seemed to pause to collect her thoughts. It looked like she didn't want to even speak. Sighing softly, she finally spoke.] This is ridiculous, all of it. I have no idea how the hell I got here, and on top of everything it feels like my senses were dulled. Was I operated on? Maybe Fran did this. But why? And I've never seen these before...

[She brings a hand up to the screen, waving a minimized pokeball in it. The grumpy girl was apparently very new to all of this. Even if it had been explained to her, it seems everything was still too confusing for her taste.]

So, we're supposed to use animals to fight? Where's the honor in that? You should fight yourself, instead of having others do it for you.

[She shakes her head and gives the screen a look.]

This could be a trap for all I know. Whoever is responsible for this better just tell me where Fran is or how I can get back to here. I have a duty to attend to and I can't waste time on stupid things like this-

[Murkrow!

Quite suddenly, and this was surely a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, The screen is ripped from the girl's hands by a what looks to be a Pokémon's claws. It quickly lifts off into the sky, the screen pointed downward to show the girl sprinting after it. She can be heard (and seen) shouting at it.
]

Stupid bird! Come back here and give that back!

[The bird pokemon simply replies with some more squawking, which could have been interpreted as laughter at her expense, and keeps flying.]

Third Person Sample:

Veronica Madaraki was not the kind of person that was fazed by certain things anymore. Why would she? After countless days of bloodshed, gore, and experiments, she almost got accustomed to it. A warrior always had to be prepared to deal with things as they came. Although, she had always been shocked by her sister's work, most else was stuff she'd already dealt with.

Fainted Pokémon were a surprising change of pace though.

"Come on... Don't just give out on me..." She muttered to the bird Pokemon cradled in her arms. The tall buildings of Goldenrod city around the two seemed to blur together as Veronica put all of herself into dashing towards the familiar shape that was the Pokémon center. It hadn't been something she expected, even if she knew it would happen eventually. It had been a rouge Rotom in a random department store. Ugh, ghosts. They always decided to pop out and be scary at the worst times, make her jump out of her skin. It had struck Murkrow with a lightening bolt spot on and he'd fainted on the spot. A moment of processing had told the bodyguard it was over and she quickly retreated from the haunted place. Those ghosts would get what they deserved, one day.

Her arrival at the pokemon center was signaled by the familiar chime that rung when she stepped through the entrance. Quickly making her way to the front desk, the nurse gave Veronica an understanding look and took her Pokémon into the back. Meanwhile, Veronica was told to wait.

"Stupid ghosts..." She muttered angrily, hugging her shoulders as she found a seat on a random couch apart from everyone else. "There's no such thing... they're a myth."

But they existed. In this strange, new world Veronica Madaraki had found herself in, ghost and monsters existed. The monsters were nothing like the ones she had in her own world either. They were what constituted for normal in this world, something she'd never understand. If Fran had found herself here, she would have likely freaked out at all the new species to examine.

She examined her scarred fingers, the needles that had been inserted in her fingertips since "birth" removed by some unknown force. It was like they were never even there. All of her other senses felt dulled as well. She couldn't run as fast, or jump as high as she used to. Whatever brought her here took her abilities. "How" was a main question, certainly not through surgery at least. The only thing left for her to do was to try and adapt. It wasn't like "Pokémon trainer" was a thing she'd ever thought about doing though, she hadn't even known what that was before coming here.

"Hmm..." Thinking to herself, Veronica let her gaze go over the center, taking in every person there and every detail. Sighing, she let herself sink into her seat.

This was pointless, at least in her eyes. Why was she even going through with this master trainer journey anyways? Fran needed her back home. She should be doing my job.

What was her job? Protecting her home and her family of course, that's what a good bodyguard did. But, as things would have it, she was without a home, without powers or weapons to use, and without a person to protect. The entire reason for her existence didn't exist here. She frowned and crossed her arms, suddenly feeling self-conscious. What could she do now?

"Murkrow!" The familiar sound of flapping wings signaled the arrival of her Pokémon, now fully healed. Murkrow fluttered over to her and landed on the table. The nurse gave the two a little wave from her desk before retuning to work. Veronica didn't understand how they could heal up Pokémon so fast, but then again she didn't understand how Fran did what she did either.

"Uh..." She regarded her pokemon quietly, giving him a few, uncertain pats on the head. Regardless, it was accepted. "I guess you don't know what we should do now, do you?" She asked plainly, already not expecting any kind of helpful answer.

"Krow!" The bird squawked, preening some of his feathers. He didn't care. As long as his trainer was doing something, he was fine with it. Not like she'd ever know that though. Again, he didn't care.

"Okay...." She sat back in her seat, feeling quite lost and letting another sigh escape her. Maybe she'd set out tomorrow, go somewhere else and train. She'd traveled before, all over her world. Who knew what else was in this world. At least there was a less likely chance of being attacked by hitmen or gang members, right?

"...Let's get out of here." She finally decided. "Maybe Fran is in another town, looking for me. I have to check."

Murkrow let out a cawing noise that Veronica chose to interpret as an agreement. Rising to her feet, the bodyguard checked herself and her Pokémon over one last time before she silently made her way to the exit. Murkow, still outside of its pokeball, fluttered into the air and around Veronica before finally landing on the wise top of her fedora, settling down to preen his feathers. Veronica stopped briefly to glance up at the barely visible bird. Sure, she could hold the weight easily, but why did he have to be there?

She just sighed and exited through the main doors. She'd never understand animals here.
